How To Clean A Collection Of Rhinestone Jewelry

By Rhea Solomon

It is necessary for people to be knowledgeable on how to clean the rhinestone jewelry. It is a valuable item so make sure that it is well-cleaned. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the person to bring out the shine of this stone. Unlike gemstones such as rubies and diamonds, rhinestones do not have their own luster so cleaning them is necessary.

When the rhinestones are cleaned, they will have a bright and striking color. If the person is aiming for this, then there are various steps that one has to remember for the cleaning. Following these steps make it possible to achieve success with the task. First, make sure to cover the work station for this cleaning with paper towels.

It is important to have compressed air prepared for this. It is necessary to spray this can of compressed air onto the said accessory in order to eliminate the loose dirt attached onto it. There may be some caked-on dirt on the accessory. For these, opt to use toothpicks instead of needles or dental picks to avoid scratching the accessory's metal settings.

Get a bottle of isopropyl alcohol as well. Most people know this as rubbing alcohol. This alcohol will dry up quickly so it is certainly a valuable cleaning tool to use for this task. If the gemstone retains any moisture, the metal setting will just tarnish and darken. When the gemstone is tarnished, there is no other option but to replace them.

Cotton swabs are very important for this too. With the cotton swabs, the person can easily apply the alcohol into the accessory. Dip the swab in the alcohol. The excess alcohol on the tip should be eliminated by rubbing it into the laid out paper towel. This prevents alcohol puddles from forming around the said gem too.

The said item might have several rhinestones in it. For such cases, clean the item up by going over the stones one by one. There may be times when the stone becomes wet because of the excess alcohol on the swab. If this happens, just dry off the excess moisture on the stone through the other end of the swab.

Do not just focus on the part that is commonly seen. Try to clean the underside of the stone too. Turn it over and clean the metal finish part. The cotton swab can be used here as well. For those who have made the swab too dirty, change it. Of course, dip the new one into alcohol and then rub off any excess moisture onto the paper towels.

There are gemstones that are open-backed. For such stones, making a few mini-cotton swabs will be helpful. To make one, just remove a small portion of the cotton of the swab. Get a toothpick. Make sure to wet it. Stick the toothpick into the cotton. With this, one can clean off the stone's crevices.

It should be useful for the person to have the said swabs. With this, the person does not have to worry about the parts of the said rhinestone jewelry that are hard to reach. The person can certainly clean up every nook and cranny of the said accessory without fail.
