Over the course of her 84 years on earth, she married four times, divorced twice, was widowed once and gave birth to two daughters. Her fourth marriage ended with her death of heart failure in 1985. Some of her most famous biographical novels have concerned the lives of Judas, the disciple who betrayed Christ; Luke, noted physician and author of two books in the New Testament, Luke and Acts; and "Great Lion of God, " about the apostle Paul.
When you read one of Caldwell's novels, her descriptions are so vivid that you have to keep reminding yourself that what you are reading is fiction, and not a chronicle of actual events. The "Great Lion of God, " for example, reads so vividly you could swear that it was a first-person account of the apostle's life and work. After 20 years of marriage and together nursing the new Christian television channel, husband Rory left her for another woman. She sees this as a Satanic attack from which God has healed her.
