In case you weren't aware, Chanel Inc. is the owner of two vineyards in France: Château Canon in Saint-Émilion and Château Rauzan-Ségla in Margaux. They're not exactly Chanel-branded vineyards, though. The Wertheimer family that owns Chanel and chose to purchase the vineyards prefers to stay out of the limelight.
Hoping to expand the luxury brand's presence in the wine industry, their latest purchase is a family-owned vineyard in Napa Valley: St. Supéry Vineyards and Winery. The vineyard's CEO told Wine Spectator that it was "Chanel's interest in long-term growth and belief in the winery's potential that drew Skalli [the winery's founder] to selling to the fashion house."
While we probably shouldn't expect to see a Chanel fashion show taking place amid the vines anytime soon, we can at least hope for a bit of Karl Lagerfeld involvement with Chanel's latest acquisition, in one way or another.
