The Meaning Of Turban Colors

As human beings, we are normally affected by many things, color included. It has an effect on our personal emotions as well as well being. Likewise, the various turban colors exude a therapeutic perspective which has a way of influencing a Sikh's personal and spiritual development as well.

Blue is a beautiful and cool color which is seen in the calming waters of the oceans and seas. It is believed that it plays a vital role in nurturing faith and trust. It is the color of peace and it also supports oral communication skills development.

Another color that signifies sensitivity is royal blue. This color brings about beautiful ideas and thoughts, just like the deep blue night sky. Authority, honesty and being reliable are all qualities that are strongly associated with this color.

Yellow color indicates our sense of self and identity. It results in the feelings of happiness and joy. It is often associated with the brain and mental faculties hence giving rise to clear thought. It helps in gathering knowledge and knowing one;s own direction in life.

The orange color is one that stirs up feelings of joy and pure bliss. It is believed that this color is capable of wiping away shocking experiences as well as trauma and bad experiences in life. It results in the enhancement of community linkages, socialization and self belonging.

White forms the largest part in the landscape of the Sikh especially where white marble has been applied in architectural buildings. It is one of the most worn colors by men and worn from this community as it believed to be composed of the whole spectrum of light. It indicates qualities of radiance, strength and purity.

The color black is a color that brings about a sense of being deep rooted. It is interesting to note that black color was not widely worn by the Sikh before the Nankana Sahib massacre that happened in 1922. During the days following the killings, most people dyed their turbans and clothes to black. The event resulted in shock waves among the people and according to them, the color brought about a stabilizing effect during this period of deep anguish and sorrow.

Gold is a color that is widely adorned by many around the world. It results in feelings of joy and well as in reducing anxiety. It also assists on to find the relevant answers to circumstances in life that one might be going through. This color also helps a lot in healing processes.

It would be interesting to find out how a combination of these turban colors would turn out. A person;s character and qualities can be best expressed by bringing all theses colors together. The individual will be sure of his self identity and will be aware of where he belongs. This person will be able to face all of life;s challenges and be able to solve them well. He will also be able to develop social relationships with others and will be able to take responsibilities seriously. A whole combination of these colors will definitely result in peace and happiness.
