Learn How To Hire A Paulding County Personal Injury Attorney

By Allan Bigarda

When someone is injured in an automobile crash it can interfere with many aspects of life. Often he may be disabled, either temporarily or permanently. It can be difficult to be compensated adequately by an insurance company. Rather than accept an unreasonably low amount of money in a settlement, it is better for him to contact a Paulding County Auto accident attorney to negotiate on his behalf.

It is wise to hire a lawyer prior to committing to any agreement with the insurance company. There is a statute of limitations and a claim must usually be filed within a certain time. Usually two to six years are allowed depending on the state you live in.

Never leave the scene of the car crash until the police have arrived and finished writing out a report. If you do, you would be considered guilty of hit and run driving. This caveat does not apply if you must be taken to the hospital by ambulance, however.

Legal advice when you are able to remain on the scene is do not exchange opinions or unnecessary conversation with the other driver. You may, however, exchange insurance information, plus your name and phone number. Anything else that you say could later be used to make it sound as if you are guilty of causing the accident.

When dealing with an insurance investigator, having an attorney by your side is invaluable. An insurance representative might visit you while still in the hospital. He may also visit your home to ask if you would sign a release form. Although getting the funds quickly seems appealing, it is not something you should do prior to getting legal advice.

If possible have a friend or relative refer an attorney. A good reputation and experience in personal injury law are of value. Have a consultation prior to making your decision to have him represent you. He will try to negotiate a favorable settlement. Failing that, he will sue the other driver in court.
