Tactics For Saving Cash On AC Costs This Summer Season

By Peter Demuth

Have you suffered through a warm front without any a/c? If you have, you recognize that it can be a totally miserable experience. Yet who wants to spend all that cash on a central air conditioner? The device itself is costly, but you also have to pay for an untidy and complex installation. You do have an alternative, however. For a two hundred dollars, you can purchase a window ac system that will keep you cool all summer long.

We needed to get a cheaper cooling solution, and we got it in a window a/c. We decided to purchase a few window air conditioner units and position them strategically around our home. We set up one in the living room, one inside the kids' bedroom, and one in our bedroom. We figured that these were the rooms where we needed the cooling the most often. We likewise swore to not turn on the central air conditioning conditioner again throughout the summer.

We were blown away by the savings! While we did have to invest a little bit in the 3 systems, we got a great deal on them and only invested $500. My husband and I devoted half of a Sunday installing the window air conditioners in the windows. We didn't need to pay for any unpleasant or pricey installation. This was an extremely simple DIY project. Among the best perks of changing to window air conditioners was that we could only cool one specific room at a time. During the day, when we just weren't in our bedroom we simply didn't run the air conditioning unit. This really helped us cut our electricity costs tremendously.

Other features that are common in window air conditioners include push-button controls, several fan speeds, and louvers that enable you to point the air where you want it. Most window air conditioners also come with an installation kit so that you can secure the system to your window.

For our living room, we purchased a slightly bigger window model. This 14,000 BTU a/c unit was able to easily cool 500 ft. in our living room. The window a/c that we selected in the living room likewise had a push-button control, which was really handy when I wanted to adjust the speed from the kitchen area.

Shutting off our main device and counting on window a/c saved us hundreds of bucks last summer season. We plan to count on her window units once more when the very first heat wave strikes this year.
