Employee Benefits An Overview

By Jeannie Monette

Group health insurance plans are the kinds of plans that provide healthcare coverage to a particular group, like employees in a certain company. These are one of the benefits that employers can offer to their employees, usually the same kinds of insurance benefits offered to all. The cost is lesser compared to individual insurance coverage purchased by an employee. If the employers purchase the group insurance plan, the employees can pay this through deduction in wages.

Insurance benefits that employees get are tax free. The law requires that employers with over 50 full-time employees should purchase health plans that conform to the minimum coverage standards including affordability standards to employees. For small businesses, or those with lesser than 25 full-time employees, there is the small business medical insurance plans, which also include tax breaks and tax credit incentives.

For small businesses or small time employer with less than 25 employees, they need detailed analysis of the coverage for group health medical plans they plan to buy. Although they will receive tax credits, they have to compare and evaluate the benefits offered because these can also be different. The cost for the total group insurance may be considered, but that cost that individual employees should pay should also be taken seriously.

There are also some companies that include insurance coverage to the employee's family members, and these are included in the group insurance plan they purchase. To the eligible employees, this is also another benefit they enjoy. Usually, the known companies offer many benefits to their prospect employees because they want the best, and this is one benefit they can offer to their prospective employees wanting to join their organization.

Employees can also get the discounted costs of insurance coverage because in many cases, the employers shoulder part of the premiums paid, and this is what eligible employees can get when working in the company. Tax credits and tax breaks are availed of by the company though in this situation. What is particularly certain is that the eligible employees will have healthcare coverage at low costs, although the group health insurance coverage can differ with the others, especially the large companies.

What is also beneficial to an employee is nobody is turned down when availing of this group insurance coverage, especially if this employee is working full time and thus eligible. For the Southern California large group health insurance coverage that is being offered to employees who are working in the large corporations, they may also have their family members enjoying the healthcare coverage, which is of good benefit to them.
