Use These Tips Reduce Home Burglaries

By Mark Mahaffey

It may surprise you, but it take just about fifteen minutes for a criminal to invade your house and rob you of hundreds of dollars' worth of items. This is one of the reasons why it is of critical importance that you do whatever it takes to improve your home security system. You do not want to be a victim of crime.

One area to consider when improving your home security system is the entrance to your house. Most criminals get into homes through the doors and windows. So the first place to start is to simply make sure that you keep your doors and windows locked as much as you can. The benefit is that it causes the thief to work harder to get in!

Your next strategy should be to make it hard for a crook to break in by other means. For example, do you have a fence around your yard combined with a driveway gate? You should, because a tall fence and a gate make it difficult for a crook to actually get to your home.

Getting a dog is a low tech way of keeping your home safe. Criminals know that breaking into a house with a dog is not a good idea. Not only do they run the risk of getting attacked and bitten, but a barking dog is a great burglar alarm! The dog will alert everyone in hearing distance of the crook's presence.

A home alarm system is another way to keep yourself safer from crime. There are a lot of robbers who do not even want to try to break into a house that has an alarm system. So make sure that you put signs in your yard and on your windows and doors to let them know you have an alarm system installed.

Finally, consider putting in motion detectors around your home. These can be put both inside and outside of your house. If you connect them to your main alarm system, you can set your system to sound an alert when they are triggered by a burglar!
