Merits Of Uniform For Schools

By Barun Kumar

You see your child in the kindergarten, high school or even college in uniform each morning he leaves the house and may be you are wondering the reason behind it all. It is important that you note that these uniforms are not only integral part of learning but also good for you, your child, teachers and the public. There are several merits of uniform for schools.

As students come from diverse backgrounds, uniforms serve to promote equality amongst them. If each student were to put on his taste, some will want show off their expensive clothing and this will lower the self-esteem of their economically challenged colleagues. Embracing uniforms in schools removes such economic gaps and the students treat each other equally. They only recognize their common goal, which is that of academic excellence.

It is quite easy to know where the children you see in your neighborhood learn because of that uniform you see them put on each morning when leaving for school. Uniforms ease identification and you will not have any problem communicating to the school authorities in case something happens to that boy you see majestically walk past you. If that boy misbehaves in your presence, you can be sure to discipline him through the school authorities.

Schools are some of the most formal settings in existence. Uniforms contribute a great deal to this state of affairs. The shambolic nature of a school without uniforms is difficult to describe adequately. A school without uniforms will be comparable to a fashion show. Both conventional and controversial types of dress codes exist in such settings. A school is not just any place but where boys transform into useful people in the community and formality has to take its roots there.

In addition, school uniforms instill discipline among students. There is always fear of doing something wrong either because the student is aware of the dire consequences of any unruly behavior or simply because he does not like to put his school in a situation that damages its reputation. Even the naughtiest boy in the neighborhood will likely stick to the highest moral standards while in that uniform.

Students will likely join formal settings like meetings, work places or colleges later on in their lives. The routine of wearing uniforms prepare them in advance for these stages of their lives and help them adjust with less strain to this change. Uniforms are a sure way of knowing whether one is likely to follow the rules in force in the organization without flouting even the simplest of the rules. One who comes in a loose tie or without a tie each morning is sure to disobey other rules as well.

Uniforms carry with them a sense of pride for the student. For example, it feels good to be in that uniform of a school that last week made history by winning in the national drama festivals or national examinations. The public gives you respect by virtue of you being a member of such institution. You pride yourself in receiving complements on behalf of your school from the public.

Students have been wearing school uniforms since time immemorial. Actually, uniforms have become part of the school education system such that it has become normal for people to wear uniforms. Each school adopts various uniforms based on various factors with some having different uniforms for students in different grades.
