Where To Look For Inspiration When Designing Biker Rings For Men

By Tara Daniels

Designing original and striking biker rings for men can often be tricky, with inspiration hard to come by. Thankfully, there is a huge range of possible sources of inspiration on which artists and designers can draw. A trip to the movies, reading a book or learning about different eras of history, can all provide ideas.

The imagery associated with horror films has often provided bikers with a fair degree of inspiration for jewelery and clothing designs over the years. Many designs of this kind may include skulls, with some using piratical designs featuring skulls and crossbones, reinforcing the outlaw ethos to which many bikers subscribe. The skull is also seen as an image of death and rebellion, which appeals to bikers who see themselves as living on the edge of society.

It can also serve designers well to take a look at history, with the American West of the 19th century being a rich source of inspiration for many jewelery designers. The outlaw imagery of this era appeals to many motorcyclists, while the American Civil War also has many banners, garments and weapons which can be used, as well as slogans. Native American imagery can also be found in many books about this era.

Going to the movies can also be a great source of ideas of jewelery designers who are working on designs for motorcyclists. While horror movies have already been mentioned in passing, designers can also look to super hero, action and science fiction films for inspiration. Many of the characters in these types of movies are associated with iconic images which can be varied for jewelery designs.

It is also possible to find some inspiration from rock music, especially heavy metal, which has enjoyed a long association with bikers and motorcycle culture. Many bands make use of imagery and logos which can be adapted for jewelery. Certain songs also feature imagery which can be rendered in jewelery, or even words which can be lettered into designs.

As heavy metal is so popular amongst bikers, it should also perhaps be no surprise that much biker jewelery also uses images from fantasy literature. There has long been an overlap between heavy metal and fantasy storytelling, with novels such as the 'Lord of the Rings' often proving a rich source of inspiration for designers. If the stories have been made into films, then the inspirational source can be even richer.

It can also be a good idea to use actual motorbike parts as a source of ideas for designs for this type of jewelery. If a biker is especially fond of a certain type of bike, then using parts from that kind of bike can help them to demonstrate their loyalty to their favorite. Some engine parts are also aesthetically appealing when they have been turned into jewelery.

If a designer is stuck for ideas on how to design biker rings for men, then they should not worry. There are plenty of potential sources of inspiration on which to draw, whether historical, cultural or artistic. Simply taking a trip to the movies or listening to music can often be all it takes to find inspiration for a truly great design.
