How To Retrieve Your Wedding Ring From The Sink

By Leslie Moore

Accidents can happen and there are times that it can be too bad that it will cost you something very important. One pretty frustrating and sarcastic scenario would be a platinum ring with a diamond stone being washed down to the kitchen sink. You can say that you are rich and that you can get another one but what if the ring that fell down the sink is your wedding ring. This is truly an event that is worth panicking especially if your wife had found out. With this, you've got no choice but to find a way on how you can save it from going down deeper of what you will think might be the center of the earth. Kitchen sink or bathroom sink, there is a solution for this kind of fall.

Retrieving it from the Kitchen Sink

Plumbers are now placing drain traps whenever they are constructing the pipes in your house. This is because many cases of flushed out wedding rings have been happening and drain traps can be used to catch those important objects. To start retrieving the ring, clear the work place. Remove everything that will obstruct you from working under the sink. Prepare a bucket or a wide pan and place it underneath the pipe to catch the water that is going to leak from it.

Find the drain trap that looks like a J or a U curve. Most of the drain traps are located below the sink drain. If you have found an access plug, remove it. Otherwise, loosen the trap with your wrench and once done, take it away from the sink, hold it carefully and pour its contents. Your ring can be one of those contents and some of those may be your other jewelry which you have refused to take back. Sanitize the ring before wearing it again and promise yourself that the incident would be the last time.

Getting it back from the Bathroom Sink

Saving your wedding after it fell from the bathroom sink can be a very easy task. The only thing that you have to do here is to disassemble the P-trap without using a lot of tools. All that you need is a bucket for catching the leaks, a pipe cleaner to remove the stuck dirt from the pipe and your bare hands. Prepare this before operating under the bathroom sink.

First, turn off the water from the faucet so that the ring won't be flushed out of the J-bend which collects metal objects after being washed down from the sink. Locate the J-bend, place the bucket underneath and unscrew the slip nuts with your hands. After a few efforts of sliding the slip nut and applying a gentle downward pressure, you will be able to extract the J-bend out of the sink. Dump the contents and see your wedding ring coming out of it.
