Finding A Custom Tattoo Artist

By Marcel Cromack

Tattoos are used to depict many things. Some people use them as a fashion statement while others use them to express their feelings. Either way, it is important that you find a great custom tattoo artist for any work you would like done. There are many people out there with the right machines required for this job, but this does not necessarily mean that they are the best.

In your search, you will need to be as specific as possible. Find a traditional artist who is capable of drawing a representation of what you describe to him. He will need to listen to how you feel, where you would like the portrait placed and also how much money you would be willing to pay for his time.

Start by checking the parlors around you. Go online and research on parlors located in your area of residence. Consult with friends and get their opinions. Having found a number of shops, call the professionals and ask if it is possible for you to go and view their work.

During the call, arrange to make a visit to his shop and look at some of his work. Take time to examine all images in order to check for clarity, signs of bleeding and how the color filling was done. Clean lines should also be available in each image.

Flexibility will be quite important when examining the portraits on display. Many artists take photographs of their completed works and display these on walls. Images may not be clear due to the type of camera used, lighting present in the room and the design being captured.

It is important that you also consider when the photos were taken. Considering that these images are permanent in nature, you need to look for consistency and freshness in all images. Shading, line thickness, color texture and consistency are all factors you have to consider. Remember that you are looking to work with someone who has mastered using his tools.

Take time to make inquiries and chat with the artists. Make inquiries on how long they have been in this trade, how they learned the art and whether they are familiar with other works of art. These are questions that will affect your final decision.

Where possible, ask for some references. Meet the references and inquire on how they feel about the work performed by the custom tattoo artist. Try and establish how long it took to complete the designs and whether the process was in any way painful.
